Gary Neville slams Manchester United performances

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville admits that some of the team's performances this season have been "shocking".

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has admitted that some of the team's performances this season have been "shocking".

United saw Champions League football next season become a mathematical impossibility courtesy of a 2-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park yesterday, a performance that drew widespread criticism despite manager David Moyes's claims that his side played well.

Rumours have since surfaced suggesting that Moyes will be sacked as manager before the end of the campaign, and Neville acknowledged that many of the team's performances this season have not helped the former Everton boss.

"Ten days earlier at Bayern Munich, those players were fighting for their lives. They were playing against the best team in Europe and actually holding their own for most of that game," Neville told Sky Sports News.

"Yesterday was a poor performance. Some of the performances this season have been shocking, well below the accepted levels, and it's not doing David Moyes any favours."

Neville also urged United to stick with Moyes in order to give him time to turn things around at the club.
