Butt regards Mason Greenwood as "best young player he's ever seen at Man Utd"

Jamie Redknapp reveals that Manchester United youth coach and Class of '92 graduate Nicky Butt regards Mason Greenwood as the best youngster he has seen at the club.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has revealed that Manchester United's head of youth development Nicky Butt regards Mason Greenwood as "the best young player he has ever seen" at the club.

Butt was a member of United's famed 'Class of 92', progressing into the senior side along with the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Phil Neville, all of whom went on to enjoy distinguished careers with the club.

Since retiring Butt has returned to United as a coach, taking up his role in 2012 and overseeing the development of a number of young players, including Marcus Rashford.

However, Redknapp revealed that his former England teammate ranks Greenwood above all of the youngsters who have preceded him.

"I remember talking to Nicky Butt about eight months ago and he said Mason Greenwood was the best young player he's ever seen at Manchester United," he told Sky Sports News.

"That is some statement considering all the players they've produced, like the Class of '92. There's nothing he can't achieve with his pace and power."

Greenwood, 18, has already made 40 appearances for United's senior team, scoring 12 goals.
