Manchester City considered a move for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar during the summer transfer window, according to a report.

Manchester City reportedly considered a move for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar during the summer transfer window before ultimately moving for Atletico Madrid's Rodri.

Aouar, 21, is believed to be on the radar of a number of top European clubs following his impressive form for Lyon over the last two campaigns.

According to L'Equipe, City explored the possibility of signing the midfielder during the recent transfer window, but neither Lyon nor the France Under-21 international were interested in a deal.

Aouar has contributed two assists and one goal in five Ligue 1 appearances for his French club this season.

City were also linked with the likes of Tanguy Ndombele before ultimately signing Spain international Rodri as a long-term replacement for Fernandinho at the base of their midfield.
