Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred 'proud' to receive praise from Pep Guardiola

Brazilian midfielder Fred admits to being flattered by praise given to him by Pep Guardiola, while hinting that he would like to work under the Manchester City boss.

Rumoured Manchester City target Fred has hinted that he would be interested in working under Pep Guardiola, but is currently only focused on Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 24-year-old caught the eye when Shakhtar ended City's unbeaten start to the season in December and was tipped to join the Premier League leaders last month.

Guardiola praised Fred for his midfield display in the Champions League group-stage fixture, and reports recently emerged suggesting that a £44.5m deal is already in place for the end of the season.

However, while the Brazil international is flattered to receive compliments from Guardiola, he insists that all eyes are on helping Shakhtar to success.

"Of course, it's always good to get compliments. It's a sign of acknowledgement, that we are doing a good job, that we are on the right track," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"Coming from people like Guardiola, now one of the most acknowledged managers in the world, it gives pride. We met quickly after that game. He praised the match I made, I thanked him and complimented his team. It was all very fast, nothing more.

"I try not to worry about it. I let my representatives take care of that part. My focus is on Shakhtar, with whom I have a contract."

Fred has a combined four goals and assists in 23 appearances for Shakhtar this season.
