Brian Kidd admits that he is "honoured" to have been kept on as part of the Manchester City coaching staff by new boss Manuel Pellegrini.

Brian Kidd has admitted that he is "honoured" to have been kept on by new Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini as part of his coaching staff.

Kidd served as assistant manager under Roberto Mancini and became caretaker manager for the final two games of last season after the Italian was sacked.

Kidd told reporters: "I've met the new manager and he was very kind and I'm very honoured that he wants me to stay with him. I'm pleased, personally.

"Obviously, he'll be setting his own standards and his own philosophy. He'll have his own principles about how to play which is exciting.

"He needs to speak to a few players, which he's going to do, and then he'll get a better picture."

The 64-year-old joined City in December 2009.
