Half-Time Report: Southampton lead Manchester City

Jason Puncheon and Steven Davis give Southampton a shock lead at the halfway stage of their Premier League clash against Manchester City this afternoon.

Southampton have taken a shock 2-1 lead into half time of their match against champions Manchester City this afternoon.

The hosts opened the scoring after just six minutes when Gareth Barry gave the ball away in his own half, allowing Jay Rodriguez to get a shot in on goal.

His effort was well saved by Joe Hart, but Jason Puncheon was on hand to slide the rebound into the empty net.

The lead was doubled in the 21st minute when Joe Hart failed to hold on to a tame Rickie Lambert strike, letting the ball run through his legs. Steven Davis was the quickest to react, tapping in to make it 2-0.

City pulled a goal back six minutes before the break, however, when Edin Dzeko swept home Pablo Zabaleta's pass after a swift counter attack from the champions.

Southampton almost restored their two-goal lead immediately, but Puncheon's volley from the edge of the box flew narrowly wide.
