Liverpool reportedly attempted to convince Juventus to sell Merih Demiral for £50m on transfer deadline day, but the Serie A side rejected that proposal.

Liverpool reportedly had a £50m bid for Juventus defender Merih Demiral knocked back by the Serie A champions in January.

Jurgen Klopp is currently having to make do without Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Fabinho due to injuries, but he did manage to bring in two defensive reinforcements during the final hours of the window.

The Premier League champions signed Ben Davies from Preston North End and secured a loan deal for Ozan Kabak, but they are believed to have made a big-money offer for Demiral as well.

According to Sportmediaset, Juventus were tempted by the Reds' mammoth £50m offer for the Turkey international, but they ultimately turned down the proposal.

The report adds that Juve view Demiral as a key player for the future, with ageing centre-backs Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci expected to call time on their Bianconeri careers soon.

Demiral, who is contracted to Juventus until 2024, has made 15 appearances for Andrea Pirlo's side in all competitions this term - including six starts in Serie A during an injury-hit campaign.
