Dermot Gallagher: 'Liverpool's Sadio Mane should have been sent off'

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher says that Liverpool's Sadio Mane should have been handed a second yellow card for handball against Crystal Palace.

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher has said that Sadio Mane should have been sent off during Liverpool's fixture with Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Mane was cautioned for simulation during the first half of the game at Selhurst Park before, following the restart, the winger picked up the ball after claiming that he had been fouled on the edge of the penalty area.

The referee disagreed but opted against booking Mane for deliberate handball, and Gallagher has acknowledged that the official was wrong to hand a reprieve to the Senegalese international.

Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "I think the problem here is that he is fouled. If you give a foul there, it goes away.

"However, when no foul is given, he has then stopped Crystal Palace attacking and then the referee is duty-bound to give a second yellow card."

Liverpool went on to register a 2-1 victory courtesy of a late goal from Mohamed Salah.
