Arthur and Fabio Carvalho both complete the full 90 minutes as Liverpool Under-21s beat Leicester City Under-21s in the Premier League 2.

Midfield duo Arthur and Fabio Carvalho both completed the full 90 minutes for Liverpool Under-21s in their Premier League 2 win over Leicester City Under-21s at the weekend.

The senior Reds squad were due to be in action against Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend, but the game was postponed due to a lack of policing resources ahead of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.

As a result, some of Jurgen Klopp's first-team members took the opportunity to keep their skills sharp and build up their fitness when the Under-21s side met Leicester at Holmes Park.

A 33rd-minute goal from Layton Stewart handed the Reds' youngsters all three points in the Premier League 2 showdown, during which a few recognisable faces were on show.

Among them was Juventus loanee Arthur, who is still waiting for his first start for Jurgen Klopp's side but completed the full 90 in the Under-21s game.

The 26-year-old picked up a booking in the latter stages of the contest, but he came through unscathed fitness wise in a major boost to Klopp, who has been reluctant to field him from the first whistle.

Arthur arrived on transfer deadline day following injuries to Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but he has been suffering from a lack of fitness in recent weeks.

The Juventus loanee is yet to make an appearance for the Merseyside giants in the Premier League and made his debut as a late substitute in last week's 4-1 Champions League loss to Napoli.

Arthur was an unused substitute against Ajax in Europe earlier this week, and it has been four months since he started a club game at senior level, but he will now be eyeing his full debut for the club after the international break.

Recent reports had claimed that Liverpool were considering terminating Arthur's loan deal in January if they can sign a new permanent midfielder, but the Brazilian is not expected to leave the club so soon.

Meanwhile, fellow new arrival Carvalho was also present in Barry Lewtas's team against Leicester after recovering from a dead leg sustained against Everton on September 3.

The 20-year-old was fit enough to make the bench for the 2-1 win over Ajax, but he did not earn any minutes against Alfred Schreuder's side at Anfield.

However, Carvalho also finished the Under-21s game alongside Arthur in a further boost to Klopp's midfield options, and Nat Phillips was also among the starters for Liverpool - lining up alongside Luke Chambers.

Following the international break, Liverpool will be back in action against Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield on October 1 before meeting Rangers in the Champions League three days later.
