Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Newcastle United

Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash against Newcastle United.

Liverpool seek their first away win of the new Premier League season when they take on Newcastle United at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds opened the 2023-24 campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Chelsea before getting off the mark at the second time of asking with a 3-1 victory against Bournemouth last weekend.

Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota propelled Liverpool to victory after Antoine Semenyo's opener, although Jurgen Klopp's men finished the game with 10 men as Alexis Mac Allister was controversially given his marching orders.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their showdown with the Magpies, who fell to a 1-0 defeat at the home of Manchester City in gameweek two.

Ibrahima Konate

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Unspecified
Possible return date: August 27 (vs. Newcastle United)

Klopp revealed at his pre-match press conference that Ibrahima Konate was a doubt for the trip north due to an unspecified concern from the win over Bournemouth, and he will need a once-over before any decision is made this weekend.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hip
Possible return date: September 3 (vs. Aston Villa)

Stefan Bajcetic was back on the bench last weekend following his lengthy absence, but the same could not be said for Thiago Alcantara. The Spaniard is now in the final stages of his rehabilitation from a hip injury, but Klopp has ruled him out of Sunday's match.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: August 27 (vs. Newcastle United)

Trent Alexander-Arnold was a casualty of the Reds' recent win over Bournemouth, coming off on the 76-minute mark due to a knock, but he is not nursing anything serious and should be given the green light to play on Sunday.

Curtis Jones

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: September 3 (vs. Aston Villa)

Curtis Jones was unavailable to face Bournemouth last time out due to an ankle injury, and as is the case with Thiago, the Englishman is not expected to be back in full training until Monday.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Liverpool have no players suspended for this match after Mac Allister's red card from last weekend's victory over the Cherries was overturned on appeal.
