Sheffield Wednesday lead Hull City 1-0 at half time of their Championship clash this afternoon.

Sheffield Wednesday have taken a shock 1-0 lead into half time of their match with Hull City courtesy of a Reda Johnson header.

The visitors were the first to test the opposition keeper when Jermaine Johnson let fly from 25 yards out, but Eldin Jakupovic was equal to the effort, tipping it over the crossbar.

Hull were the next to come close when Robbie Brady's cross was met by Sone Aluko, only for Miguel Llera to get his body in the way and deflect it wide.

Wednesday took the lead in the 24th minute when Rhys McCabe's in-swinging free kick found the head of Johnson, who made no mistake with his finish.

The visitors almost doubled this lead less than five minutes later as Hull failed to deal with a corner, allowing Michail Antonio space to shoot. Jakupovic was on hand to pull off a fine save to deny the midfielder, however.

Jakupovic was called into action again five minutes before the break, again saving a Johnson shot from distance.

Hull enjoyed a good spell at the end of the half and came close just two minutes before the interval as Stephen Quinn latched on to Ahmed El-Mohamady's cross, but his powerful header was off target.

Robert Koren then squandered the hosts' best chance of the half, failing to beat Chris Kirkland when one-on-one as Hull were forced to go into the break one goal behind.
