Grimsby Town too strong for Huddersfield Town in friendly

Goals from Nathan Arnold, Danny East and Omar Bogle hand Grimsby Town a surprise 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town.

Grimsby Town caused a surprise in their pre-season clash with Huddersfield Town by recording a 3-1 triumph over the Championship side.

It was a fine start for the hosts as they broke the deadlock in the 13th minute when a Lloyd Allinson clearance was blocked by Omar Bogle, allowing Nathan Arnold to slot home from close range.

Despite taking the early lead, the National League outfit were put under extended spells of pressure throughout the first half and they were fortunate to see Joe Lolley strike the post after a fine solo run.

However, the home fans were celebrating once again two minutes before the break when Danny East stepped up to curl home a deflected free kick from 25 yards.

Allinson came to Huddersfield's rescue early in the second half with an impressive stop to keep Arnold's long-range strike from finding the top corner.

The visiting shot-stopper had no chance of preventing Grimsby from scoring a third after the hour mark as Arnold played an inch-perfect pass to Bogle, who kept his composure to score with an emphatic finish.

Huddersfield managed to reduce the deficit two minutes later when Tommy Smith found the room to tap home a cross at the back post, but they were unable to continue their momentum in the latter stages as Grimsby held on for a comfortable win.
