Preview: Gimnasia vs. Lanus - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Argentine Primera Division clash between Gimnasia and Lanus, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Aiming to end a run of eight matches without a win, Lanus visit the Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo on Sunday to lock horns against Gimnasia.

Similarly, the home side head into this weekend's clash in La Plata in need of a lift having failed to win any of their last three outings.

Match preview

Gimnasia fell to a second consecutive defeat away from home as they were beaten 1-0 by River Plate at the Estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti on Friday.

Nestor Gorosito's men fell behind to Lucas Beltran's opener in the dying embers of the first half, and that was enough to settle the contest in Buenos Aires.

Consequently, Los Triperos have dropped down to eighth place in the Argentine Primera Division standings, four points shy of league leaders Argentinos Juniors.

Awaiting them next is the task of facing off against an opposing side who are unbeaten in the last 16 meetings between the teams across all competitions.

However, Sunday's hosts have won seven of their most recent eight home games and will be confident of ending their woeful record of late against this weekend's away side.

Lanus snapped a three-game winless run courtesy of a 2-2 stalemate against Velez Sarsfield at the Estadio Ciudad de Nestor Diaz on Thursday.

Jorge Almiron fell behind on two occasions to strikes from Maximo Perrone and Leonardo Jara but they hit back both times through Lautaro Acosta and Franco Ortellado.

Having managed just six points from nine matches to date, the Granets remain bottom but one in the standings ahead of Aldosivi by just a single point.

Off the back of seven straight away defeats, Sunday's visitors have it all to do this weekend as they prepare for another tough task on the road.

Team News

Pedro de La Vega remains without an appearance this season, and the forward is not expected to play any part in Sunday's contest either.

Eighteen-year-old Mateo Sanabria was shown a straight red card last time out, rendering him ineligible to feature for Lanus this weekend.

Nicolas Contin is unavailable for Gimnasia as the Argentinian is yet to make any appearance since last September due to a long-term knee injury.

Matias Melluso's involvement for the visitors is currently hanging in the balance after he missed his side's defeat to River Plate with a knock.

Gimnasia possible starting lineup:
Rey; Colazo, Guiffrey, Morales, Enrique; Sosa, Cecchini, Cardozo, Aleman; Soldano, Ramirez

Lanus possible starting lineup:
Monetti; Ortellado, Perez, Aguilar; Aude, Perez, Loaiza, Gonzalez, Di Placido; Sand, Varaldo

We say: Gimnasia 1-0 Lanus

Gimnasia have turned their home ground into a real fortress, and they are huge favourites to emerge victorious here. While we expect Lanus to give a good account of themselves, we are also tipping the hosts to come out on top in the end.
