Roberto Martinez: 'Everton can achieve special things'

Roberto Martinez believes that Everton can "achieve special things" this season.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has said that his side "can achieve special things" in the Premier League this season.

The Toffees travel to face table-toppers Arsenal this afternoon and could leapfrog Manchester City into fourth place with a win.

"The league is going to be fascinating this season," Martinez told talkSPORT. "You are looking at six, seven teams that have a great opportunity to fight for the top four and we will look to fulfil our potential. If we do that at the end of the season, we can achieve special things.

"It is wide open. It was going to be like that due to the amount of changes at the teams that were expected to challenge for the title. There was a big turnaround with managers.

"If you can take the opportunity to get as many points as you can, maybe it can be a different season, to get a team in the top six that wasn't meant to be."

Martinez joined Everton in the summer having previously managed Wigan Athletic for four years.
