Early goals from Petr Jiracek and Vaclav Pilar give the Czech Republic a 2-0 lead at the break against Greece.

The Czech Republic hold a 2-0 lead over Greece at the break in Wroclaw as they look to keep their quarter-final qualification hopes alive.

Michal Bilek's side headed into this encounter on the back of a 4-1 defeat by Russia which had left their chances of progressing hanging by a thread.

However, within two minutes of today's match against Greece they had broken the deadlock. Tomas Hubschman threaded a pass through the defence for Petr Jiracek, who steadied himself before beating Kostas Chalkias in the Greek goal with a left-footed shot.

Chalkias was beaten again just four minutes later as the Czechs doubled their advantage. A cross from full-back Theodor Gebre Selassie evaded the goalkeeper and Vaclav Pilar was on hand to bundle in his second goal of the tournament.

The Czechs continued to dominate, but they rarely looked like adding to their two-goal advantage. Their best chance fell to Arsenal midfielder and captain Tomas Rosicky, but his shot was parried wide by Michalis Sifakis, who had replaced the injured Chalkias in goal.

As the half drew to a close Giorgos Fotakis thought he had reduced the arrears for Greece with a headed effort from Vassilis Torossidis's cross. However, the attacker was flagged offside by the linesman.

Should the Czechs hold on in the remaining 45 minutes, they will go second in Group A.
