Chievo end losing run at Carpi

Chievo hold off a second-half fightback from Carpi to claim a 2-1 victory and end their long run without a win in Serie A.

Chievo have ended a seven-game run without a win in Serie A by claiming a 2-1 victory over Carpi this afternoon.

The visitors made a bright start to the contest and opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Roberto Inglese rose highest inside the box to head in from Valter Birsa's free kick.

It got even better for Chievo six minutes later as Riccardo Meggiorini latched onto Inglese's flick beyond the defence, before firing a powerful drive into the net.

Carpi almost managed to halve the deficit when Jerry Mbakogu worked space inside the box, but the striker could only turn his effort wide of the post.

As the game edged past the hour mark the hosts did get on the scoresheet as Alessandro Gamberini turned the ball into his own net after it had come back off the bar.

In the final minute Mbakogu came close to scoring a second for his side with a powerful drive towards the top corner, but Albano Bizzarri tipped the ball over the bar as Chievo held on to take the points.
