Report: John Terry targeting new Chelsea deal

A report claims that John Terry is still confident of being handed a new one-year contract at Chelsea despite losing his place in Jose Mourinho's side.

John Terry is reportedly confident that he can convince Chelsea to offer him a new one-year contract at the club despite losing his place in Jose Mourinho's first-choice starting lineup.

The Blues captain's future has been called into question after the former England international lost his place to Kurt Zouma in recent weeks, and several clubs are alleged to be interested in signing the 34-year-old if he leaves Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

However, the Daily Mail claims that Terry is still adamant that he has a major role to play for Mourinho's side this season, despite being dropped for the last two matches against Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Arsenal, both of which Chelsea won.

It was confirmed earlier today that Terry will return to the team for Wednesday's League Cup clash at Walsall, but he is expected to find himself back on the bench for the weekend trip to Newcastle.

The report claims that sources close to Terry have said that the player is sure that he can still get enough game time to convince the Portuguese boss that he deserves another 12-month contract, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the current campaign.
