Barcelona are close to announcing a new contract for teenage midfielder Gavi, according to a report.

Barcelona are reportedly close to announcing a new contract for teenage midfielder Gavi.

The 17-year-old has been a key player for the Catalan giants during the 2021-22 campaign, making 24 appearances in all competitions, contributing one goal and three assists in the process.

Gavi's current deal with Barcelona is due to expire in June 2023, and a recent report claimed that Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool were all competing to sign him.

However, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the youngster is close to reaching an agreement with his La Liga club over a new deal until 2026.

Romano claims that 'it's just a matter of time' before an announcement is made, and a 'big' release clause will be inserted into the fresh agreement.

Spain's youngest ever player has scored once and provided three assists in 17 La Liga appearances for Xavi's side during the 2021-22 campaign.
