Chelsea are reportedly expected to recall Lyon defender Emerson Palmieri now that they are out of the race to sign Everton full-back Lucas Digne.

Chelsea are reportedly expected to persist with their efforts to recall Emerson Palmieri from Lyon now that they have allegedly failed with a bid for Everton left-back Lucas Digne.

On Sunday evening, it emerged that Aston Villa were on the verge of signing the unhappy Frenchman, edging out the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle United because they are prepared to push through a permanent deal.

Chelsea were allegedly only interested in a temporary agreement with head coach Thomas Tuchel against having three left wing-backs at his disposal at the beginning of next season.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur, the European champions will persist with attempting to negotiate a deal with Lyon for Palmieri.

Despite the Italy international being Chelsea's player, Lyon have the right to retain his services until the end of the campaign unless the Blues hierarchy are prepared to renegotiate terms.

With Tuchel having talked up the qualities of the 27-year-old last week, it appears likely that he has identified Palmieri as his first-choice option to deputise for the injured Ben Chilwell.
