Shirt numbers available to Willian at Tottenham Hotspur

Sports Mole looks at the shirt numbers available for Chelsea attacker Willian at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly won the race to sign Chelsea attacker Willian.

The Brazil international's existing deal at Stamford Bridge is due to expire at the end of June, meaning that, as it stands, he will be available on a free transfer this summer.

A host of clubs, including Barcelona, Arsenal and Liverpool, have been credited with an interest in the 31-year-old, who has scored seven times and registered six assists in 37 appearances for the Blues this season.

However, Spurs are believed to have already agreed terms with the South American, who will head to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in time for the 2020-21 campaign.

Here, Sports Mole looks at the shirt numbers available for Willian at the club should he arrive.

Willian had the number 22 shirt for Chelsea for six straight seasons before taking on the '10' for the 2019-20 campaign. The attacker also sported the number 10 jersey during his time with Anzhi Makhachkala and Shakhtar Donetsk before arriving in the Premier League in the summer of 2013.

It seems unlikely that '10' would be an option at Tottenham, though, as that shirt is currently held by a certain Harry Kane. The England captain has been linked with a move away from Jose Mourinho's side, but it would be a surprise to see him leave due to the current circumstances in the world of football.

The '22' at Spurs is occupied by number two goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, although the Argentine could decide to give up the jersey if Willian demands it upon his proposed arrival.

The Chelsea forward currently holds the '10' shirt for Brazil, but he has previously worn the number 19, which is held by former Fulham youngster Ryan Sessegnon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The '9' shirt is, somewhat surprisingly, available at Spurs, though, as it has not been filled since Vincent Janssen's exit. The number 12 and number 14 are also vacant following the departures of Victor Wanyama and Georges-Kevin N'Koudou, and both provide viable options for the Brazil international.

Elsewhere, '16' is available, while '25' and '26' are vacant in terms of the top 30. Interestingly, '26' has not been filled since Ledley King's departure in 2012, and it would not be a surprise to see Willian take on a relatively high number as he actually sported '88' during his time with Anzhi.

The number nine presents an interesting possibility for Willian, although it seems more likely that shirt will be reserved for a potential new striker. As a result, '14' is perhaps the likeliest option at this stage, but a lot will depend on what else the club have planned ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.
