Michael Duberry retires from football

Former Chelsea and England Under-21 centre-back Michael Duberry retires from football at the age of 37.

Former Chelsea defender Michael Duberry has called time on his playing career with immediate effect.

The 37-year-old was released by League Two side Oxford United at the end of last season, but despite reports that he was considering retirement, the centre-back opted to join non-league outfit Hendon.

However, after a handful of appearances, the Enfield-born player departed Hendon and he has now decided to hang up his boots.

"Today is the day when I officially retire from football. I have enjoyed every moment of my career. For all those that showed support during my career I THANK YOU and to all those that tried to knock me I THANK YOU," he wrote on Twitter.

As well as Chelsea and Oxford, Duberry also turned out for Bournemouth, Leeds United, Stoke City, Reading, Wycombe Wanderers and St Johnstone.
