Watch: Ben Davies scores comical own goal against Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur's Ben Davies scores a comical own goal as the Lilywhites go 2-0 down against Chelsea in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies was on the wrong end of a comical own goal during his side's EFL Cup semi-final first leg with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Lilywhites were on the back foot after only five minutes against Antonio Conte's old club following Kai Havertz's early opener, and Spurs struggled to respond.

In the 34th minute of the contest, Chelsea's Hakim Ziyech swung in a free kick from the left-hand side, and the ball ultimately cannoned off Davies into the back of the net.

Japhet Tanganga's attempted headed clearance could only find Davies caught totally unawares, and the Welsh defender and Hugo Lloris could only watch the ball nestle into the goal.

Conte has elected to bring on Tanguy Ndombele for the second 45 at Stamford Bridge in the hopes of inspiring a comeback from 2-0 down, with Matt Doherty making way.

Meanwhile, Arsenal's proposed first leg with Liverpool on Thursday has been postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the Reds squad, with the tie now set to begin at Anfield on January 13.
