Neil Warnock claims that finishing in the Championship's top two would still be "a bonus", with the playoffs Cardiff City's target for the season.

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has insisted that finishing in the playoff zone remains the target for his side, despite moving four points clear in second place.

The Bluebirds extended their winning run without conceding a goal to four matches in the Championship by edging out Servernside rivals Bristol City 1-0 in South Wales on Sunday lunchtime.

Warnock's men are now in the driving seat for the second automatic promotion spot, but the experienced boss is happy to finish anywhere above sixth, which he believes would be a huge achievement in its own right.

"That's what we're aiming for. Anything else is a bonus," he told BBC Sport. "They're good teams, to be punching in that sort of category. I said after the game, 'You do me proud, lads.' We haven't got the Rolls Royces of the division, but, by gum, we've got some endeavour and a lot of skill in some areas as well.

"We're 15 points away from seventh now, that's where we're looking. We're almost in the playoffs now. We made changes as well, people like [Greg] Halford and [Liam] Feeney [coming into the side].

"I looked at our team sheet before the game with no [Sean] Morrison, [Aron] Gunnarsson or [Kenneth] Zohore. I would have been crying 12 months ago if that had been the case. It shows how far we've come as a squad."

Cardiff, now on an eight-game unbeaten run in the second tier, return to action next Saturday with a trip to Brentford.
