Conference Premier roundup: Barnet slip up at Grimsby Town

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday's action in the Conference Premier as leaders Barnet lose 3-1 at playoff-chasing Grimsby Town.

Barnet have seen their lead at the top of the Conference Premier table cut to five points after suffering a 3-1 defeat at Grimsby Town.

John Akinde's 22nd goal of the season put the Bees in front before Ollie Palmer, Lenell John-Lewis and Jack Mackreth netted to help the Mariners maintain fourth place in the standings.

Despite Barnet's setback, second-placed Bristol Rovers were unable to take full advantage after they were held to a goalless draw away at Woking.

Macclesfield Town have moved closer to the leaders after an impressive 2-0 success away at Kidderminster Harriers, while Forest Green Rovers complete the top five after two goals from Jon Parkin helped them see off Braintree Town.

At the bottom of the table, AFC Telford United and Alfreton Town both upset the odds to record victories in their battle to avoid relegation to the Conference North.

A double from Tony Gray helped AFC Telford record a resounding 4-0 success away at Wrexham, while two spot kicks from Bradley Wood gave Alfreton the platform to secure a 3-2 win away at Welling United.

Nuneaton Town now sit just one point off bottom after they lost 2-0 at home to Gateshead, while Dartford's hopes of survival were dealt a fierce blow as they were thrashed 6-1 by Dover Athletic.

Lincoln City hold possession of 10th place in the table after they registered a 3-0 triumph over Aldershot Town, while mid-table rivals Torquay United succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at Altrincham.

The final result of the day saw the fixture between Southport and Chester FC end in a goalless draw.
