Half-Time Report: Tommy Elphick secures 2-1 lead for Bournemouth

Tommy Elphick strikes on the stroke of half time to earn Bournemouth a 2-1 lead over Burton Albion in the FA Cup third round.

Goals from Brett Pitman and Tommy Elphick have earned Bournemouth a 2-1 lead over Burton Albion at half time in the FA Cup third round.

Bournemouth made a brilliant start to the game when Matt Richie retrieved a loose ball on the right wing before delivering an inviting cross to the far post, where Pitman arrived to tap home from close range.

Tokelo Rantie came close to doubling his team's lead but his long-range strike was tipped past the post by Dean Lyness.

Burton equalised in the 35th minute when, after being given too much space outside the box, Jimmy Phillips was rewarded by seeing his deflected shot beat Ryan Allsop.

Pitman should have regained the lead for his team just moments later but Lyness reacted quickly again to keep out his shot from 12 yards.

However, Bournemouth secured the advantage before the break when Elphick lost his marker inside the box to convert a cross from Charlie Daniels.
