Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman wants the complete backing of club president Joan Laporta to stay at the club for the 2021-22 season.

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has affirmed that he wants the club's "absolute" backing to remain in the hotseat for the 2021-22 season.

The former Everton boss has scooped a Copa del Rey triumph during his first season at the helm in Catalonia, but Barca's La Liga title hopes are hanging by a thread.

Koeman is due to remain at Barcelona next term before his existing deal runs out in the summer of 2022, and he has insisted that he is after Joan Laporta's full confidence to stay in control of the reins.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, the 58-year-old said: "We have agreed to talk at the end of the season. It's very important for a coach to work in a club where he has absolute confidence. If that's the case, I can and I'd like to stay."

Koeman has taken charge of 52 Blaugrana matches since assuming office last summer - winning 34 of them - and his side face off against Celta Vigo in the penultimate gameweek of the La Liga season on Sunday.

The third-placed Catalans are still in the title race with two games to go, but their hopes of glory will be dashed if leaders Atletico Madrid - who are four points clear - come out on top against Osasuna.
