Barcelona players reportedly remain behind manager Ernesto Valverde amid calls for the Spaniard to be sacked following a poor run of results for the Catalan side.

Barcelona players have reportedly signalled their support for manager Ernesto Valverde amid calls for the Spaniard to be sacked following a poor run of results for the Catalan side.

The former midfielder has been in charge for just over two seasons, winning consecutive league titles but failing twice in Europe, capitulating in the knockout phases against Roma and Liverpool respectively.

More recently, a 3-1 defeat away at Levante last weekend followed by a goalless draw with Slavia Prague at the Camp Nou intensified calls for Valverde to be sacked.

However, according to Marca, Barcelona players, including Lionel Messi, remain behind the 55-year-old despite the club's current patch of disappointing form.

Valverde is understood to have established a thorough understanding with the senior members of the squad, who came out in support of their manager soon after the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final.

Reports have claimed that Ronald Koeman, who enjoyed a decent spell in Catalonia as a player, has been lined up as the next Barcelona boss.
