Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce acknowledges that his side have "made a mess of it" after suffering a shock 3-1 Championship defeat at home to Queens Park Rangers.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has admitted that his side "made a mess" of Tuesday night's Championship home game against Queens Park Rangers.

Having beaten league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-1 on Saturday, Villa went on to lose 3-1 against Ian Holloway's side at Villa Park in midweek.

The defeat to QPR, combined with Wolves and Cardiff City winning their respective fixtures on Tuesday, leaves Villa seven points behind the Bluebirds in third.

"It's the accumulation of points at the end of the season so we can't just look at others to do us a favour," Bruce told the Birmingham Mail.

"We've made a mess of it. We'll get ready for Saturday and hopefully it goes our way then.

"It was always going to be hard, we were under no illusion about that. We have to accept it, we have to accept the defeat and move forward."

Up next for Villa is a trip to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, their last game before the international break.
