Arsenal attacker Reiss Nelson is reportedly offered a new-and-improved contract to stay at the Emirates, where his current deal expires at the end of the season.

Arsenal attacker Reiss Nelson has been offered a new-and-improved deal by the Premier League leaders, according to a report.

The 23-year-old was regarded as one of the highest-rated Hale End talents to come through the ranks a few years ago, but he has since been overshadowed by several other academy graduates.

Nelson has not enjoyed the same career trajectory as the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, and he was loaned out to Feyenoord for the 2021-22 season.

Having enjoyed a positive season in the Netherlands - reaching the Europa Conference League final - Nelson returned to North London to try to reignite his Arsenal career, and he has come up with crucial contributions as a substitute during an injury-hit campaign.

The former England youth international has not started a single Premier League game this term, but he has had a hand in five goals in five games off the bench, scoring three himself and providing two assists.

Replacing Saka in the first half of October's win over Nottingham Forest, Nelson netted a brace and provided an assist for Thomas Partey in a 5-0 romping at the Emirates Stadium.

Five months later, Nelson would complete an astonishing turnaround in a 3-2 win over Bournemouth, setting up Ben White's equaliser before scoring a 97th-minute winner.

The attacker's deal is due to expire at the end of the season, but he is viewed as an important member of Mikel Arteta's squad - in spite of his bit-part role - and the Daily Mail states that he has now been offered a new contract.

Nelson is understood to earn £35,000 per week at the Emirates, and he could expect a wage increase with his renewal, but he is yet to give the green light to any fresh terms.

As a result, doubts are persisting over the Englishman's long-term future, even if his priority is to continue in the English capital, where he is settled and happy.

Should Arsenal ultimately fail to find common ground with Nelson, the winger would not be short of Premier League offers from the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham, West Ham United and Aston Villa.

Italian champions AC Milan could also take an interest in a free transfer for Nelson, who publicly announced his desire to continue in an Arsenal shirt earlier in the season.

The former Feyenoord and Hoffenheim loanee has been with the Gunners since 2007, and he has seven goals and seven assists to show from 60 senior appearances for the club.

Nelson has won one FA Cup and two Community Shields in North London, but he was given just five minutes off the bench in Sunday's 2-2 draw with West Ham United.

Having thrown away successive two-goal leads in back-to-back gameweeks, Arsenal's lead at the top over Manchester City - who have a game in hand - has been cut down to four points ahead of Friday's meeting with Southampton.
