Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is reportedly set to earn over £200,000 per week should he put pen to paper on a new deal in North London.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is reportedly in line for a wage increase of over £80,000 a week with his new Gunners contract.

The Norway international's camp are understood to be in advanced talks with the club over an extension for the 24-year-old, whose current deal expires at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Odegaard was pressed on his contract situation during his time away with Norway earlier this month, during which he claimed that he wanted to remain at the Emirates for "a long time".

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is also confident that the powers-that-be will agree a renewal with Odegaard's entourage, whom they possess a "close" relationship with.

Since making his Arsenal stay permanent in the summer of 2021, Odegaard has remained on the same £120,000-a-week terms, but he is set for a lucrative raise should he put pen to paper.

In order to reflect his importance to the team, the latest update from Football Insider states Arsenal are ready to increase Odegaard's salary to over £200,000 a week, and an agreement is now close.

The report states that an announcement should be made in the coming weeks, and the former Real Madrid man is expected to extend his stay for another four years until the summer of 2027.

While Arsenal have no intention whatsoever of entertaining any bids for their captain, they are thought to value him at £100m after he led the Gunners to within five points of their fourth Premier League title last season.

Odegaard became a fan favourite during a loan spell in the 2020-21 season, convincing Arsenal to spend £30m on his signature, and he has come up with 26 goals and 15 assists in 110 matches for the Gunners in all tournaments.

The Norway skipper netted 15 goals and set up eight more in 37 Premier League matches during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring more times than any other midfielder and earning a place in the PFA Team of the Year.

In addition, Odegaard was voted Arsenal's Player of the Season, while he has also received a nomination for the 2023 Ballon d'Or alongside teammate Bukayo Saka, who is one of several players to commit their futures to the club.

Since the start of the 2022-23 season, all of Saka, Reiss Nelson, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba have penned new deals, in addition to experienced midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

Once an extension for Odegaard is sealed, right-back Ben White is thought to be the next player in line for improved terms, although his existing deal does not run out until 2026.

Arsenal return to top-flight action against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, where the Gunners will aim to avoid a fourth successive defeat on the Toffees' turf.
