Olivier Giroud comes off the bench to net twice as Arsenal score four second-half goals on their way to a 5-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at the Emirates Stadium.

Four goals well into the second half have helped Arsenal thrash Huddersfield Town 5-0 in Wednesday night's Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners took an early lead through Alexandre Lacazette, but were lacklustre until the 68th minute when they netted another four goals in rapid succession.

Arsene Wenger's side went in front with just three minutes on the clock following a blistering counter-attack which came to a head when Aaron Ramsey's flick-on sent Lacazette clean through on goal, allowing the Frenchman to drive the ball beyond Jonas Lossl from close range.

Both sides struggled to create much in front of goal during the first period, but Arsenal almost doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark when Lacazette found space in the box, rounded Lossl and attempted to chip the ball in from a tight angle, only to watch Martin Cranie hack his effort off the line.

The second half was an entirely different game and there were chances at both ends of the park before Arsenal doubled their lead in the 68th minute through substitute Olivier Giroud, who made the net bulge from close range after Mesut Ozil squared the ball to him in front of goal.

Germany international Ozil was Arsenal's inspiration in the closing stages, and he made it two assists in as many minutes when he crossed into the box for Alexis Sanchez to smash home, the Chilean international putting the game beyond the Terriers.

Just three minutes later, the German added his own name to the scoresheet, collecting a through-ball from Ramsey before lobbing Lossl at close quarters to do further damage to the visitors.

Arsenal rounded off the scoring in the 87th minute when Sead Kolasinac tanked his way into the penalty area and floated a cross towards Giroud in front of goal, allowing the Frenchman to stroke home his second and Arsenal's fifth of the night.

The win extends Arsenal's unbeaten run to 14 home matches and moves them up to third place in the table, while Huddersfield drop to 14th.
