How Arsenal could line up against Manchester City

Sports Mole looks at how Arsenal could line up for Sunday's Premier League meeting with runaway leaders Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal will become the latest team to attempt to stop the Manchester City winning machine when they welcome the runaway league leaders to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Gunners head into the match off the back of a victory in their last league game but with only one win in five outings across all competitions, leaving them in 10th place and 22 points adrift of their visitors.

Arsenal also have a poor record against Man City in the Premier League recently, and most would expect that to continue against a team that is on an unprecedented 17-match winning run across all competitions.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Mikel Arteta could line his side up for the meeting with his former employers.

Possible ARS XI vs. MNC

Out: None
Doubtful: Thomas Partey (hamstring)

Arsenal are blessed with an almost fully-fit squad at the moment, with summer signing Thomas Partey the only lingering fitness doubt.

The midfielder did not travel to Rome for the Europa League tie against Benfica in midweek due to a hamstring injury, although Arteta stopped short of ruling him out of this match too.

Nonetheless, it appears unlikely that Thomas will recover in time to start on Sunday, which could see Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos partner each other in the middle of the park again.

There was a fitness boost in midweek with Kieran Tierney making his return off the bench, and the Scot could go back into the starting XI for this one, leaving Hector Bellerin and Cedric Soares to battle it out for the right-back slot.

Interestingly, Arteta named an unchanged side in midweek to the one which beat Leeds United last weekend, but Tierney is unlikely to be the only change to the starting XI this time around as the manager looks to keep his squad fresh.

Rob Holding and Alexandre Lacazette have fallen out of favour in the last week or so and will be hoping to work their way back into the team for this one.

Lacazette has seen competition for forward places increase with Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and new boy Martin Odegaard all in encouraging form, though, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also seems to have rediscovered his scoring touch with a hat-trick against Leeds last weekend.

That made it five goals in Aubameyang's last two Premier League starts, and he could become the first Arsenal player since Derek Tapscott in March 1956 to score two or more goals in three successive league games with another brace or better this weekend.
