Richarlison escapes retrospective punishment for diving

Watford midfielder Richarlison escapes retrospective punishment for his alleged dive to win a penalty in the 2-1 win over Arsenal at Vicarage Road.

Watford midfielder Richarlison has been cleared of diving to win a penalty during Saturday's Premier League clash with Arsenal at Vicarage Road.

Richarlison went down under the challenge of Hector Bellerin inside the area, leading Neil Swarbrick to point to the spot as Watford levelled things up before going on to score a 92nd-minute winner.

Arsene Wenger branded the decision "ridiculous", but a three-man FA panel have now cleared Richarlison of simulation and he will face no further punishment.

The case was the first involving a Premier League player to go up in front of the new simulation panel, which is made up of three people selected from a 13-man pool of former managers, players and officials.

A case from League Two also went up in front of the panel earlier in the season, although on that occasion Mansfield Town's Hayden White was also cleared of diving.
