Arsenal team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Aston Villa

Sports Mole rounds up Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's Premier League fixture with Aston Villa.

Arsenal return to Premier League action against Aston Villa after getting their Europa League campaign off to a winning start with a 3-0 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night.

The Gunners will be hoping for a better domestic result than their last, when they threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with bottom-of-the-league Watford.

Young stars Joe Willock and, in particular, Bukayo Saka impressed for Arsenal in Germany and will be hoping to be rewarded for their performances with more Premier League minutes.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest injury and suspension news for the Gunners ahead of the newly-promoted side's visit to the Emirates Stadium.

Alexandre Lacazette

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: October

Arsenal's player of the year last season was revealed to have been managing an ankle problem in the early stages of the campaign and the decision has been taken to give him the month off in order to rest and recover. He is expected to return to action in October.

Sead Kolasinac

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Other
Possible return date: September 22 (vs. Aston Villa)

Kolasinac was replaced by Ainsley Maitland-Niles at left-back for the final 10 minutes in Frankfurt, but Unai Emery has suggested that the problem was only a minor one and the full-back should be available against Villa.

Hector Bellerin

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

The next step for Bellerin is to feature for the Under-23s before he is ready to rejoin the first team as he continues his rehabilitation from a serious knee injury.

Rob Holding

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: September 22 (vs. Aston Villa)

Holding travelled to Germany with the squad but was not included on the bench, which may suggest that his return to first-team action may be further away than first thought. He will be in contention to named as a substitute against Villa, but the reality may be that the EFL Cup tie against Nottingham Forest could be the game in which he makes his return.

Konstantinos Mavropanos

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: Unknown

The Greek centre-back has struggled with persistent groin injuries which have plagued his time at Arsenal and hampered his progress. He is also lacking match fitness and will likely pick up some minutes with the development side when he recovers fully from the issue.

Kieran Tierney

Status: Out
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: September 24 (vs. Nottingham Forest)

The Scottish left-back has featured in training for the Gunners after recovering from a hernia operation and will have the EFL Cup game against Forest earmarked for his Arsenal debut.
