Arsenal pushed forward early on and had the first shot through Theo Walcott, but the forward's effort was well blocked.

Olivier Giroud then got in behind Spurs' defence and drove towards goal, but he delayed and allowed the defenders to close down the chance.

Carl Jenkinson had an effort on goal after 13 minutes, although Hugo Lloris was equal to the strike and kept it out.

Emmanuel Adebayor was given a yellow card on 19 minutes for a reckless lunge on Jack Wilshere.

Arsenal almost broke away on 28 minutes after Scott Parker gave away possession, but Giroud could not find a teammate, allowing Michael Dawson to clear.

Spurs then took the lead on 37 minutes through Gareth Bale, who latched onto Gylfi Sigurdsson's through-ball and finished with aplomb.

Andre Villas-Boas's men doubled their lead two minutes later through Aaron Lennon, who got in behind to meet Parker's pass before taking it around Wojciech Szczesny and slotting home.
