Fiji's Kini Murimurivalu hails John McKee's influence

Kini Murimurivalu tells Sports Mole that he wants John McKee to remain the head coach of Fiji, amid speculation linking the Kiwi with France and Japan.

Full-back Kini Murimurivalu has praised the contribution that John McKee has made to Fijian rugby.

New Zealand-born McKee took charge of Fiji last year and has since guided the team to glory in the World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup, as well as having received plaudits for the style in which his side have played at the Rugby World Cup.

His services have been linked with both France and Japan of late, but Murimurivalu has told Sports Mole that he is keen for McKee to stay put.

"He's been very good. He sees the best in us and he's done really well. He's been pushing the squad. His involvement in our team has been a bonus for Fiji. What he's done none of our previous coaches have done and I hope he stays," he said.

The 26-year-old made the admission after Fiji had defeated Uruguay 47-15 to ensure that they did not end the tournament winless following defeats to England, Wales and Australia.

Despite the fact that they have been unable to advance beyond the pool stages, Murimurivalu insisted that there were still "some positives" to take from their campaign.

"For the group this game [against Uruguay] was very important. We have been playing against the best teams in the world and even though we lost, we took some positives from it," added the La Rochelle player.

"We then showed some good determination today. We have tried to look at things in a positive way to make sure we have been competitive."

Murimurivalu was one of Fiji's seven try-scorers during their rout of the South Americans.
