Fiji head coach John McKee has praised his players for the way that they held Australia at bay in an impressive second-half showing.
The Pacific Islanders had to dig deep to keep out their opponents in Cardiff, eventually restricting the Pool A giants to just three tries overall.
Having also pushed England in their opening fixture less than a week ago, McKee was full of pride when speaking to the assembled press in the aftermath of the 28-13 defeat.
"It was a tough night for our team," he said. "We came here with high ambitions for this game and felt that if we could be at our very best, we could get a win. All credit to the Wallabies, they played very well.
"However, I felt for periods of the first half we had control of the game. But some errors crept in and they were very good on capitalising on that and taking their opportunities.
"I thought we were excellent in the second half and felt the effort was amazing. It's very hard to play England and then Australia five days later in such high intensity test matches."
Fiji now have a week-long rest before taking on Wales at the Millennium Stadium in their next outing.
