Hull Kingston Rovers sign Tony Puletua on loan until end of season

Former New Zealand international prop Tony Puletua joins Hull KR on loan from Salford Red Devils until the end of the season.

Hull Kingston Rovers have announced the signing of prop Tony Puletua on loan from Salford Red Devils until the end of the season.

Puletua has fallen out of favour with the Red Devils this season, failing to make a single appearance for the club having featured in 27 of their 29 outings last year.

The 35-year-old former New Zealand international has been brought in as cover after Dane Tilse, Adam Walker and Mitch Allgood all picked up injuries.

"Tony is a quality player who has played at the highest level for a number of years. He won the NRL with Penrith and he has plenty of big game experience, which will be a real asset for our younger blokes," coach Chris Chester told the club's official website.

"We are down to a couple of fit front rowers at the moment so to bring in a prop of Tony's calibre is a fantastic addition to our squad and our thanks go out to the Salford club for their cooperation.

"He's a thorough professional on and off the field and he's arrived in good shape so I've got no worries about throwing him straight into the derby this weekend."

Puletua also revealed that this season would be his last in the game, and outlined his desire to go out on a high.

"I've not been playing for Salford and I've always seen this year as my last season before I retire and I want to go out with a bang. I really want to do well for the club before I finish up," he added.

Puletua is eligible to make his debut in the Magic Weekend derby against Hull FC at St James' Park this Saturday.
