York City sack manager Russ Wilcox after nine games without win

York City sack manager Russ Wilcox following nine League Two games without a win.

York City have confirmed the sacking of manager Russ Wilcox following nine games without a win in League Two.

The axe has fallen on the 51-year-old, while his assistant manager John Schofield has also parted company with the club.

York are currently 21st in the league table, three points above the relegation zone following just two wins in 15 games.

York chairman Jason McGill told the club's official website: "The board of directors would like to thank Russ for his hard work, commitment and endeavour during his time as York City manager. He has been a pleasure to work with and is an honourable, decent individual who has given his all to his role at the Club.

"The board would also like to thank John Schofield for his hard work and enthusiasm on the training ground. Like Russ, he has also shown a high level of commitment to the club during his time here. Everyone at York City Football Club wishes both Russ and John the very best for the future."

Wilcox became York manager in 2014.
