Relegation-threatened Yeovil Town sack Darren Way

Saturday's defeat at MK Dons was a 12th in 16 league matches for the Glovers in 2019.

Yeovil have sacked manager Darren Way, the League Two club have announced.

A poor run of results – 10 defeats in the last 12 matches – has seen the Glovers slip perilously close to the relegation zone.

Saturday's 2-0 loss at MK Dons leaves Yeovil just two points above the bottom two, with 23rd-placed Macclesfield having a game in hand.

Neale Marmon will oversee first-team duties on a temporary basis, with the club's next game at home against Newport on March 30.

"Yeovil Town Football Club can confirm that with regret Darren Way has had his employment terminated," said a statement on Yeovil's official website.

"Whilst Darren's dedication, strong work ethic and potential are all clear, the board of directors has been compelled to act as the run of form in 2019 is not acceptable.

"All at Yeovil Town FC wish to place on record our thanks to Darren for his long service and contribution to the club as a key player, coach and manager. We wish Darren nothing but the best for his future.

"Neale Marmon has taken on first-team manager duties on a temporary basis and we ask all our fans to strongly back him and our talented squad of players in the remaining games this season.

"Any additional changes to the first-team coaching structure that may occur will be announced in due course."

Way, a former Yeovil defender, had been in charge at Huish Park since December 2015 – when he oversaw a turnaround in form which kept the club in the Football League that season.

After three years in the job, the 39-year-old signed a two-year contract extension in November but the Glovers have won just four league games since.
