Half-Time Report: Sunderland holding Everton at the break

Rock-bottom Sunderland play out a goalless first half with Champions League-chasing Everton.

Rock-bottom Sunderland are holding Everton to a goalless draw at half time at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League.

The Blues spurned a couple of good openings inside the first 15 minutes when Steven Naismith hit a shot high and wide in a good position, after Gerard Deulofeu's effort was saved after a strong run took him inside the Sunderland area.

Everton had John Stones to thank for a last-ditch clearance on 33 minutes when Fabio Borini escaped two challenges before rounding goalkeeper Tim Howard.

Adam Johnson had a great chance for the Black Cats towards the end of the first half, but James McCarthy thwarted the winger with a superb challenge.
