Claude Puel: 'Southampton deserved to beat Hull City'

Southampton manager Claude Puel claims that his side should have beaten Hull City and urges the team to learn from the 2-1 defeat.

Southampton manager Claude Puel has claimed that his side deserved to beat Hull City during their Premier League clash at the KCOM Stadium this afternoon.

Charlie Austin put the Saints ahead from the spot after just six minutes, but quickfire goals from Robert Snodgrass and Michael Dawson in the second half saw Hull come from behind to end their six-game losing streak.

Puel admitted that his side paid the price for losing their concentration, but was left scratching his head at how they left with nothing from the game.

"We can do better, this is a good lesson for us for the future because we had control of the game. We lacked concentration and afterwards it was difficult to score. We had chances after that but we weren't clinical. It's difficult to accept how we lost this game," he told reporters.

"It is always a strong challenge to play every three days. Every game is a strong physical challenge, it's also difficult to keep a good attitude. We dominated the game and controlled it.

"When you win a game like Inter Milan, when you come back to the Premier League to play a team who plays one game a week it is difficult. I think we will learn for the future. Every game in the Premier League is difficult. We deserved the points today."

The defeat leaves Southampton 10th in the Premier League table following a run of just one win in their last five league games.
