Siena produced a stubborn defensive display to hold Palermo to a goalless draw on Saturday evening.

Palermo had the better of the early chances and Gianluca Pegolo had to be on form to keep the scores level following a superb effort from Fabrizio Miccoli.

Jose Ilicic should have broken the deadlock before the break but the striker's shot from the edge of the area flew safely over Pegolo's crossbar.

Siena improved in the second half but an off-target header from Francesco Valiani was the closest the hosts would come to beating Samir Ujkani.

Pegolo was the hero for Siena as the goalkeeper ensured that his side claimed a point by first denying Nicolas Bertolo and then keeping put Ilicic's long-range strike with only a few minutes remaining.
