Half-Time Report: Wigan Athletic with two-goal lead at the break

Wigan Athletic score twice before the break in their match against Sheffield Wednesday.

Wigan Athletic are beating Sheffield Wednesday at half time in their Championship clash this evening.

The away side made a positive start, and James McClean wriggled free in the box. He played it to the edge of the area for Ben Watson, who fired wide.

The Latics then failed to clear as Jean Beausejour's short back pass to Leon Barnett was missed, meaning Atdhe Nuhiu was in on goal. However, his shot dribbled into the hands of Ali Al-Habsi.

Nicky Maynard made the home side pay for that miss with his first goal for Wigan just minutes later. The striker received the ball down the right and headed towards goal, before firing a low shot into the bottom corner.

Wigan doubled their lead just before the break. Martyn Waghorn's delivery from a corner fooled everyone and drifted in at the near post.
