Serbia comfortably beat Wales 6-1 in their World Cup qualifier this evening.

Wales have fallen to a heavy 6-1 defeat at the hands of Serbia in their World Cup qualifying match this evening.

The hosts took the lead after just 15 minutes when Manchester City's Aleksandr Kolarov struck a powerful free kick into the top corner.

The lead was doubled less than 10 minutes later, with Kolarov turning provider for Serbia's second. He bundled his way through three tackles before setting up Zoran Tosic for an easy finish.

Wales pulled a goal back on the half-hour mark when Gareth Bale fired in a fine free kick to give Chris Coleman his first goal in charge of Wales. However, the hosts soon restored their two-goal margin when Dusan Tadic found Filip Djuricic, who slammed the ball past Boaz Myhill to give his side a 3-1 lead going into the break.

The lead was extended even further 10 minutes into the second half when Branislav Ivanovic dispossessed Bale before finding Tadic, who slotted home to make it 4-1.

Things got even worse for the visitors with just over 10 minutes left as some poor defending allowed Ivanovic to drill a low shot in from the edge of the box.

Wales's misery was compounded in the 90th minute as Miralem Sulejmani put the icing on the cake for Serbia, making it 6-1.
