Sassuolo ensure Serie A safety

Sassuolo ensure their Serie A safety courtesy of a 4-2 win over Genoa.

Sassuolo have ensured their Serie A safety courtesy of a 4-2 win over Genoa this afternoon.

Antonio Floro Flores had a good chance for the home side early on, but he could only poke his close range effort into the gloves of Mattia Perin.

Cabral then threatened for the away side when he was picked out in space on the edge of the box, before firing over the bar.

In the 16th minute Sassuolo took the lead through Floro Flores, who latched onto Paolo Cannavaro's pass, before firing an effort into the corner past Perin.

Domenico Berardi then forced Perin to tip over his powerful strike, before flashing a volley just wide of the post from a corner, with the keeper left rooted to the spot.

Genoa were given the chance to level the scores in the 40th minute when Francesco Magnanelli conceded a penalty for dragging down Sime Vrsaljko inside the box.

Alberto Gilardino saw his spot kick saved by Gianluca Pegolo but Emanuele Calaio followed up to head in the rebound.

Magnanelli was close to restoring the home side's lead after the break, but his long-range shot was palmed away by the keeper.

Soon after Genoa wasted a huge chance to score their second of the match, as Andrea Bertolacci hit the post from a couple of yards out following Vrsaljko's ball across the box.

In the 66th minute Sassuolo scored their second goal of the match through Davide Biondini, who rose to head in Berardi's corner at the front post.

Their lead didn't last long as Genoa levelled the scores 10 minutes later when Gilardino fired home a loose ball from inside the box.

In the 87th minute Sassuolo scored their third goal, as Gianluca Sansone was picked out inside the box by Magnanelli, before volleying an effort past Pegolo.

With a minute left to play, Floro Flores wrapped up the points with a powerful strike that made sure of his club's place in Serie A for next season.
