David Moyes denied winning start to Real Sociedad reign

David Moyes's Real Sociedad play out a goalless draw against Deportivo la Coruna at Riazor to remain locked on points with their opponents the in La Liga table.

David Moyes has been denied victory in his first game in charge of Real Sociedad after they were held to a goalless draw by Deportivo la Coruna at Riazor.

The former Manchester United boss, who signed an 18-month contract with the La Liga club last week, almost saw his new side get off to a dream start when Sergio Canales weaved through the opposition defence and unleashed a shot goalwards, but Fabri was on hand to keep out the effort.

It was a similar story on the half-hour mark when Carlos Vela found the target at the end of his run, only for Fabri to once more thwart the danger.

Vela saw another opening come and go as the half progressed, shooting narrowly over the crossbar with a strike from the edge of the box.

Despite having the better of the first-half chances, the game was evenly balanced going into the interval at 0-0.

The second half went much the same way in terms of a lack of clear-cut chances, although it was Deportivo who created the first real opening following the restart through Pablo Insua.

Having worked some space to connect with a corner, he was unable to get the better of Enaut Zubikarai with his header as the game remained goalless.

Former Arsenal striker Vela was involved again soon after, tricking past some challenges before firing away a shot which again ended up sailing a few inches high of the bar.

Jose Rodriguez had two chances fall his way in the final 10 minutes, but the Deportivo man saw his first attempt miss the target while in space, before Zubikarai thwarted the second effort.

In the end, Moyes's Sociedad side held out for their first clean sheet in seven months, leaving them locked on points with their opponents in the table.
