Hernan Dario Gomez urges James Rodriguez to leave Real Madrid

James Rodriguez should leave Real Madrid this summer in search of regular first-team football, according to Colombia coach Hernan Dario Gomez.

Colombia coach Hernan Dario Gomez has urged James Rodriguez to depart Real Madrid this summer.

The 24-year-old joined the Spanish giants from AS Monaco in the summer of 2014 off the back of a starring performance for his South American country at the 2014 World Cup.

The attacker hit 17 goals during his first season at the Bernabeu, but only managed eight strikes in 32 appearances last term after losing his spot in the team under Zinedine Zidane.

Amid speculation that James could seek pastures new this summer, Gomez has called on the Colombia skipper to join a team where he is more valued.

"My advice to James would be that it's better for him to play for another team because the man [Zidane] has shown that he doesn't want him," Gomez told WIN Sports. "He's a world-class player and he should go to another team. It's a very personal concept, he's our idol and we want to see him play, but because this man doesn't play him, I don't like it."

Manchester United have been previously linked with a move for the attacking midfielder.
