Matt Le Tissier: 'Cristiano Ronaldo can last as long as Ryan Giggs'

Matt Le Tissier backs Cristiano Ronaldo to enjoy another 10 years at the highest level, insisting that he can rival Ryan Giggs in the longevity stakes.

Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier has said that Real Madrid marksman Cristiano Ronaldo could emulate his former Manchester United teammate Ryan Giggs in top-flight longevity.

At 30, Ronaldo shows no signs of slowing down after scoring twice in the Blancos' 4-3 Champions League win away to Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.

Giggs called time on his United career at the age of 40 in 2014, and Le Tissier feels that the Portuguese is of a similar ilk as the iconic Welshman.

"He's an incredible athlete," he told Sky Sports News. "It wouldn't surprise me if he carries on playing as Ryan Giggs did.

"He looks after himself, he's got the right mentality; if he keeps his enthusiasm, I think he could do that and he could adapt as a player. I think he could have a fair number of years left in him."

Ronaldo, who left United for Madrid in 2009, is already the Spanish club's all-time record goalscorer.
