Maurizio Zamperini stands down from Palermo

Palermo owner Maurizio Zamperini is stepping down from his role as CEO of the club and will be replaced by former Catania sporting director Pietro Lo Monaco.

Palermo owner Maurizio Zamparini has announced that he is standing down from his role as CEO.

The 74-year-old, who acquired the club in 2002, revealed that Pietro Lo Monaco, former sporting director of Catania, will fill the vacancy.

Zamperini, who recently sacked Giuseppe Sannino - his 41st managerial casualty - admitted that his reputation is damaging the club.

"I am here to tell you that Pietro Lo Monaco will become the CEO of Palermo with full powers," Zamperini told a press conference. "We have drawn up a plan for the coming years, and I am optimistic about our agreement with Lo Monaco.

"Together we have established a programme to grow technically, and with the full confidence of Gasperini, build a new training facility.

"Starting today, if you want to talk about the next six months, speak only with Lo Monaco, because he is the representative of the new Palermo. My image does more harm that good to the football club. I am asking a lot of Lo Monaco, but I have faith in him."

Zamperini got involved in football in 1987, saving Venezia from financial catastrophe.
